Carolyn has been working with clay on and off for over 20 years. She graduated from the Northern Beaches Institute of TAFE in 1998, with a Diploma in Visual Arts in Ceramics. Continuing to study, she completed A Statement of Attainment in Ceramic Research and Development in 2000 which culminated in an exhibition, “Women at Clay” at the Manly Regional Art Gallery. Her work has been featured in Pottery in Australia, Ceramic Technical and Craft Arts publications. Sharing her time between her native New York and Australia her exploration of ideas and concepts are always evolving. Drawn to the organic nature of clay and inspired by our natural environment, her current work reflects her connection to place and its beauty.

I have been potting on and off for many years and would love to spend more time potting! My grandmothers both potted so it feels like a natural thing to do. There is the added challenge now of working out how best to use wild clay dug from my own yard in Lakemba. Early results are encouraging!

I have been involved in pottery for over 30 years. Obtained my advanced diploma at Gymea TAFE with 13 subjects passed with distinction. I received twice, at the end of year exhibition, the Industry Award certificate for outstanding work.
I have been President of Port Hacking Potters Group for 4 years, then secretary and social secretary. Although still a member no longer active within this club, due to a major commitment to St. George Studio Potters where I am a member since 1999.
Here for many years, I was workshop manager, keeping our old kilns and wheels working and making cone 9 glazes. Then 12 years ago I started the transition to cone 6.
It has been a long learning road in glaze technology; in my glaze workshops I try to improve on the information of raw materials and methology.
In my work I always like to try something different; my main inspiration comes from nature, especially Australian flora. Sometimes I throw basic pieces just to keep in training.
Since 2015 I have been teaching pottery at St. George studio.

I have been going to St George for 5 years after many years of ceramics at TAFE, NAS and home. It is wonderful to find a community of like-minded potters who encourage, create and inspire. Pottery has always been my favourite art form, getting my hands in clay is a joy.

Peter attended a children’s pottery class at St George Potters in the late 1970s.  The first time he used a potters wheel he feel in love with the feeling of the clay forming into a pot in his hands.  Working and living overseas meant that pottery was ignored for many years.  However at the beginning of 2016 Peter recognised his need for a hobby and rejoined St George Potters Group to be part of a community.  Peter enjoys making attractive functional wear – he still loves the magic of the wheel.  He also loves experimenting with glazes and the transformation that happens in firing.
